Consider the source

Who was surprised on Sunday when Cheney came out in strong support of Rumsfeld?

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney has come out in support of embattled Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, calling him the best person the United States has had in the post.

"As a former secretary of defense, I think Donald Rumsfeld is the best secretary of defense the United States has ever had," the vice president said in a statement relayed to CNN through a spokesman Saturday.

"People ought to let him do his job".

Yeah, you big meanies.... you leave Donnie alone...

Seriously, though, how much credence can we give a testimonial from Cheney? This is the guy, if you recall, who was in charge of Bush's Veep Hunt. And returned to tell the Boy-King-to-be that though he had searched the realm from coast to coast, he could find no worthier candidate to back up his liege than his humble self.

You really think this guy could possibly admit he might, just might possibly, have committed an error?

When. Pigs. Fly.
