Treats from the news

USAToday calls for Bush to decline nomination a la Johnson. Yeah, like that's going to happen. I can see Napolean volunteering to give up his Empire sooner.

From the NYT, a look at Dems drooling over McCain for Veep. McCain says 'no way', or words to that effect. Not sure what I think about the prospect - I have a lot of respect for McCain and the two would certainly staple down the 'we know all about the dark side of war' creds...

News from Boston and Austin - the Bushes reverse themselves and schedule a visit to their disposable daughters in celebration of their graduations. Earlier, if you recall, they had said they were not planning to attend, to prevent the disruption attendant upon the visit of a sitting prez. Never mind that Bush is planning to SPEAK at various graduations in swing states - it was apparently just their own children they didn't wish to honor. Now at least they're planning to 'celebrate' the events with their daughters without actually attending the ceremonies. It's easy for people to make fun of the Bush girls, but I can't do it. They have my complete sympathy. Maybe therapy can do something about the years of neglect; I sure hope so.

And over in the blogosphere, Kevin Drum, formerly CalPundit, has a wonderful graphic showing Bush's approval ratings throughout his tenure. More on this later.
