This is kind of sick - there are people actively hoping that Israel destroys Damascus since that will mean we're closer to the End of the World and the coming of Jesus. I am sooo not kidding. Read some of the threads on this 'Rapture Ready' bulletin board. WARNING: Scary shit - they really believe this stuff.

I was just thinking the same thing. They have been dreaming of a conflagration in Israel for years, so this should be terrific news. They are all ready to be "raptured up."
Personally I hope they do go up, or down, but in any case far away... and soon. No need for them to wait for cataclysm -- it's already a sure thing, guys -- you can leave right now.

According to Iraq the Model, that's what this whole thing is about with Hezbollah. Apparently the Mullahs are trying to fulfill the prophesy requirements for the return of the 12th Mahdi. I have read other reports that Amahdinejad thinks that he is the Mahdi. Fortunately, I don't think that Israel has any of those particular issues, and all of the Christians I know who believe the rapture stuff are peaceful people, but the Mahdiots are in charge of a state.
